Project Description
The customer came to us for a building that would provide them with: space and structural capacity for eight bins, 20’ wide x 50‘deep, each with capacity to independently hold bulk dry fertilizer to a piled height of 28’. Building to also include a common 30’ wide clear-span service bay. In all, approx. 156,000 cu.ft., or 56 rail cars of storage capacity featuring automated bin loading from rail car by overhead conveyor (by others).
The design needed to include: A high level of post-frame construction expertise utilizing wood, structural steel, and reinforced concrete.
Additional critical requirements: Vast interior ceiling clear heights, strong bin and exterior walls to resist lateral loads from bulk dry fertilizer piles, and wide roof rafter spans.
